Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about our services, insurance, and getting started.
General
What is pediatric therapy?
Pediatric therapy includes occupational therapy, speech therapy, and physical therapy services designed specifically for children. These therapies help children develop the skills they need for everyday life, communication, and physical development.
What ages do you work with?
We work with children from infancy through adolescence. Our therapists are experienced with toddlers, preschoolers, school-age children, pre-teens, and teens.
What should I expect at the first visit?
The first visit typically involves a comprehensive evaluation where the therapist observes your child, assesses their skills and challenges, and discusses your concerns and goals. It's a collaborative process — your input as a parent is essential.
How long does therapy typically last?
The duration of therapy varies based on each child's needs and goals. Some children benefit from a few months of therapy, while others may need longer-term support. We regularly reassess progress and adjust the treatment plan accordingly.
How involved are parents in the therapy process?
Very involved! We believe in a family-centered approach. Parents are encouraged to observe sessions, and we provide coaching and strategies you can use at home to reinforce your child's progress.
Occupational Therapy
What is occupational therapy for kids?
Pediatric occupational therapy helps children develop the skills needed for daily 'occupations' — play, learning, self-care, and social participation. OTs address challenges with fine motor skills, sensory processing, emotional regulation, and independence.
What conditions does OT help with?
OT can help children with autism, ADHD, sensory processing disorder, developmental delays, anxiety, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, fine motor difficulties, emotional regulation challenges, and executive functioning difficulties.
What does an OT session look like?
Sessions are play-based and engaging. Your child might work on puzzles, sensory activities, art projects, obstacle courses, or daily living tasks — all carefully designed to target their specific therapeutic goals in a fun, motivating way.
How often will my child need OT?
Most children attend OT 1-2 times per week. The frequency depends on your child's needs and goals, and is determined during the evaluation process. We work with families to find a schedule that works.
Speech Therapy
What is speech therapy for children?
Pediatric speech therapy helps children with communication challenges — from producing sounds clearly (articulation) to understanding and using language, social communication, fluency (stuttering), and even feeding and swallowing concerns.
When should I consider speech therapy for my child?
Consider speech therapy if your child isn't meeting communication milestones, has difficulty being understood, struggles with following directions, has limited vocabulary for their age, stutters, or has difficulty eating or swallowing.
Do you offer virtual speech therapy?
We offer parent/caregiver coaching sessions virtually, which can include speech-related strategies. Please contact us to discuss the best option for your child's specific needs.
How long are speech therapy sessions?
Session lengths vary based on your child's needs and treatment plan. Sessions are typically 30-60 minutes. Your therapist will recommend the best duration during the evaluation.
Insurance & Payment
What insurance do you accept?
We are in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois PPO and Aetna commercial plans. Self-pay options are also available for families with out-of-network coverage.
Do you offer self-pay options?
Yes! Self-pay is available for all services. Parent/caregiver coaching and group programs are self-pay only. We can provide superbills for families who wish to seek out-of-network reimbursement.
Can you provide superbills for out-of-network reimbursement?
Yes, we provide superbills that you can submit to your insurance company for potential out-of-network reimbursement. We recommend contacting your insurance provider to understand your out-of-network benefits.
How do I verify my insurance coverage?
Contact us and we'll help verify your benefits. You can also call the member services number on your insurance card and ask about your outpatient occupational therapy and speech therapy benefits.
